Marquise Cut Diamonds

There is no denying the timeless elegance of a marquise cut diamond. Due to their extended length, marquise diamonds can appear larger than other diamond shapes with the same carat weight or size. As with other elongated shapes such as the pear or oval cut diamond, marquise stones are prone to a “bow-tie” in the middle of the diamond where part of the stone appears dead as a result of the arrangement of facets. To prevent this, select a marquise cut with a length-to-width ratio below 2.20. Regardless, a visual inspection can establish if a marquise cut you are interested in has a bow-tie or not. Marquise diamond rings and other jewelry may also need special care due to its sharp points, which can make the stone susceptible to damage.
